Muutto ulkomaille?

Ulkomaille muutaa vuosittain yli 8000 suomalaista. Lähtösyitä ei eritellä, mutta yleensä muutetaan joko töiden, opiskelun tai rakkauden perässä. Useimmat haluavat palata takaisin Suomeen jossakin vaiheessa, ainakin joksikin aikaa. Myös Suomeen muuttavien ulkomaalaisten määrä lisääntyy, koska tietyillä sektoreilla on työvoimapula. Sekä maailmalle lähtevät suomalaiset että tänne tulevat ulkomaalaiset tarvitsevat tukea, jotta asettautuminen uuteen kulttuuriin ja aikanaan takaisin kotimaahan sujuisivat mahdollisimman hyvin.

Safety and security in Finland

Compared to most European countries, Finland will offer you and your family quite a carefree stay security-wise.

Street-crime is virtually non-existent; most crime takes place during evening hours and in larger city centers. In many cases both the offender; as well as the victim, are under the influence of alcohol. Rarely do we see cases where the suspect presents predatory traits in victim selection. Hate crimes as well as gang violence are also virtually non-existent. Organised crime does exist in Finland, but still has a minor role in society.

Crimes against property are mainly related to drug use and are as common as in most of the industrial countries. Reasonable precautions should be taken in order to protect your vehicle as well as other property. Make sure you have sufficient insurance and behave in big Finnish cities with caution in regards to protecting your belongings.

National police is a highly respected government authority. Finland is currently one of the least corrupt countries in the world. The police follow this tradition. If the police do stop you, expect to be treated with dignity and respect, but you should also be prepared to face the consequences of your actions and not to try to negotiate your way out by attempting to bribe law enforcement officers. This will surely get you into a great deal of trouble.

The fire department, as well as emergency medical service personnel are very highly trained and most cities can provide services in sufficient response time during various emergencies.

The national emergency phone number 112 provides you with the services of the police, medical service as well as the fire department. Most emergency professionals speak enough English to understand a foreign customer. All cities have sufficient emergency preparedness for major crises and large-scale disasters.
