Ulkomaille muutaa vuosittain yli 8000 suomalaista. Lähtösyitä ei eritellä, mutta yleensä muutetaan joko töiden, opiskelun tai rakkauden perässä. Useimmat haluavat palata takaisin Suomeen jossakin vaiheessa, ainakin joksikin aikaa. Myös Suomeen muuttavien ulkomaalaisten määrä lisääntyy, koska tietyillä sektoreilla on työvoimapula. Sekä maailmalle lähtevät suomalaiset että tänne tulevat ulkomaalaiset tarvitsevat tukea, jotta asettautuminen uuteen kulttuuriin ja aikanaan takaisin kotimaahan sujuisivat mahdollisimman hyvin.
The Helsinki Service Map shows users what public services are available in Helsinki and how to reach those services. The Service Map was launched in 2008, and it was expanded to cover the entire Helsinki Metropolitan Area in 2011.
A new version of the Service Map under development combines the information of the Service Map and the Journey Planner with information about accessibility. Users can select their mode of transport – whether they move by foot, bicycle, public transport or private car. The map displays the route, showing ongoing street work. The service provides instructions for the selected route, for example, “turn right on to Mannerheimintie”, or “turn left on to Aleksanterinkatu”.
Users can select to see information about accessibility on the map. When they indicate a stroller, a walker or a wheelchair, or vision or hearing problems, the service reports possible inadequacies in accessibility.
The visual appearance of the map has been designed so that the map is as easy to read as possible and can be used by mobile phone. The map’s OpenStreetMap basis has been complemented with the metropolitan municipalities’ own geographic information. “We are currently working on a basic map for users with poor vision,” says Project Manager Mirjam Heikkinen of the City of Helsinki Executive Office’s Information Technology unit. “The first pilot version of the map meant for users with poor vision is already available.”
