The Schengen Visa Information System, VIS, will expand this year to all countries of the world. The new system will be introduced next in Ukraine on 23 June and in   Russia on 14 September. Later this year, VIS will be taken into operation in China, Japan, South Korea, India and Nepal.

Fingerprints will be collected from all visa applicants by the end of 2015 - next in Ukraine and Russia. The biggest change from the visa applicant's viewpoint will be that they need to give finger scans when applying for a visa, which means that the application must be submitted in person.
